Was your iPhone on the iOS Beta program and you upgraded to iOS 11.2 before getting your iPhone X? Are you now prevented from restoring your old iPhone to your shiny new iPhone X? Follow these steps and you’ll be ready to go in no time.

Note: This worked for an iPhone 6s but should work for any iPhone. Make sure to download the ISPW file specific to your model of phone.

  1. Disable Find My iPhone on your old phone.

  2. We’re going to be rolling back your old iPhone to iOS 11.1. You’ll be able to keep all of your files though. Download the ISPW file for iOS 11.1. You’ll want to find the build corresponding to your phone model.

  3. Plug your phone into your computer. Install the ISPW file onto your phone by opening iTunes. Navigate to the overview page for your iPhone. Hold down Option and click “Check for Update”.

  4. In the file browser that pops up, select the downloaded ISPW file.

  5. Once installed, make a backup of your phone.

  6. Plug in your iPhone X and restore from the backup. Note: You might have to turn off Find My iPhone for your iPhone X as well.
